This project shines a light on women who left their mark on history, in art as in other fields. Some are famous, others less well known, but all of them left an imprint. Through their portraits, I want to give them back their visibility and draw the eye to their paths once again.
The traces of fluorescent paint I apply to their faces and around them become a true visual signature. They catch the eye, underline their presence and make them emerge from the image. Fluorescent colour thus becomes a metaphor for visibility: shining a light on those who marked their time, so that they are still seen today.
Each portrait is born of a two-stage process. This dialogue between abstraction and figuration creates a visual tension between appearance and erasure. The face, a place of recognition, coexists with what overflows or fragments it.
The fluorescent marks become witnesses to a presence that is both asserted and hindered, echoing the way these artists were visible without being fully so, recognised without being truly accepted.
