Through portraiture, Clémence Devienne brings visibility to lives that exist at the margins of our gaze: residents of New Orleans, refugees, women artists, and Gisèle Pelicot.
For over ten years, she has explored the face as a site of memory, presence, and resistance. Her current body of work, Inner States, takes this exploration to an intimate proximity with facial features. Captured in extreme close-up, the faces extend into abstract areas that surround and intersect them, seeming to bring to the surface what lies within. Moving between figuration and abstraction, her painting seeks to give form to the invisible: the emotions, tensions, and inner movements that escape the eye.
Her original artworks, each a unique piece, are available to purchase through her online shop.
