Biography

Clémence Devienne is a multidisciplinary painter specialized in the portrait. She was born in 1980 and lives and works in Paris. As the daughter and granddaughter of sailors who were passionate about painting, she grew up in Paris surrounded by maps of the world, colorful canvases, miniature boats, and photographs of distant lands. From early on, then, she felt compelled to travel and meet people from different cultures and backgrounds.  For the past ten years, she has devoted as much time as possible to her painting practices. Through her collaborations with neighborhood associations in New Orleans, Aubervilliers, where she used to live, and the 19th arrondissement, where she currently lives, she works with people who are not usually in contact with the art world. Her art is resolutely turned toward tolerance, culture mixing, and dialogue.

Her neo-expressionist style is in line with Alice Neel and her subject too since Alice Neel wanted to represent people on the margins.
